India at the 2027 World Cup

India travel to southern Africa as the top seed in Group A and one of the most consistent one-day sides of the past decade. Their recent World Cup record is formidable: semi-finalists in 2015 and 2019, then ten straight wins at home in 2023 before Australia beat them in the final in Ahmedabad.

Both of India's titles came in very different eras: Kapil Dev's side stunned the West Indies at Lord's in 1983, and MS Dhoni's team won on home soil in Mumbai in 2011. South Africa holds memories too: India reached the 2003 final at the Wanderers, the same ground that will stage the 2027 final.

The draw hands India a headline opening fortnight: Australia in Cape Town in the first group match, Pakistan at the Wanderers three days later, and a date with co-hosts Zimbabwe at the brand-new ground in Victoria Falls.
