Afghanistan at the 2027 World Cup

Afghanistan's rise has been one of cricket's most remarkable stories. They made their World Cup debut in 2015, and in 2023 they beat England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands to stay in contention for the semi-finals deep into the group stage.

They followed that by reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup. A world-class spin attack makes them dangerous on any surface, and they qualified for 2027 directly through the ODI rankings.

They open against Pakistan at Centurion and play India, Australia and co-hosts Zimbabwe in Group A, making them the side most likely to disrupt the expected order.
