2027 World Cup schedule announced: 12 things to know

The full fixture list for the 2027 men's Cricket World Cup is out. Dates, the India v Pakistan blockbuster, the new format, venues, IST timings and the ticket ballot, explained.

The fixture list for the 2027 men's Cricket World Cup was unveiled in Cape Town on 1 October 2026, a year before the first ball. Here are the key points.

1. It runs from 2 October to 21 November 2027

That's seven weeks of cricket, the longest window for a men's ODI World Cup in recent years. The first match is in Windhoek on Saturday 2 October, and the final is at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday 21 November.

2. There are 57 matches

That's up from 48 at the 2023 World Cup in India. The extra games come from the new structure: a three-match Super Series, a 30-match group stage, a 21-match Super 7 and three knockouts.

3. India v Australia opens the group stage

A rematch of the 2023 final at Newlands, Cape Town, on Thursday 7 October: 10:00 AM local, 1:30 PM IST. Match details.

4. India v Pakistan is on 10 October

The marquee group game is at the Wanderers, Johannesburg, on Sunday 10 October at 1:30 PM IST. The two could also meet in the Super 7 on 7 November in Cape Town. Match details.

5. Twelve venues across three countries

Eight in South Africa, three in Zimbabwe (including a new ground at Victoria Falls) and one in Namibia. See all venues.

6. There's a new Super 7 stage

The top three in each six-team group, plus the best fourth-placed side, go into a seven-team round-robin. Nobody carries points forward. Format explained.

7. Seven teams are pre-seeded

India (A1), Australia (A2), Pakistan (A3), England (AB4), New Zealand (B1), South Africa (B2) and Sri Lanka (B3) have Super 7 slots pencilled in, so fans can plan travel now. If one of them misses out, the team that replaces it takes over its fixtures.

8. Every match starts at the same IST time

All three host countries use UTC+2, so day matches always start at 1:30 PM IST and day/night matches at 4:00 PM IST.

9. The semi-finals are in Cape Town and Centurion

Semi-final 1 (1st v 4th) is at Newlands on 17 November, and Semi-final 2 (2nd v 3rd) is at Centurion on 18 November.

10. Zimbabwe host India at Victoria Falls

One of the more striking fixtures: co-hosts Zimbabwe play India at the new Mosi-oa-Tunya stadium on 24 October.

11. Four places are still to be decided

The World Cup Qualifier in Namibia and South Africa (26 February – 21 March 2027) fills the last four spots. Two-time champions West Indies are among the teams who must come through it.

12. The ticket ballot is already open

Fans have until 23:59 SAST on 21 November 2026 to enter the free ballot. How to enter.
